MATI
In 2004 Montessori Academy Training Institute opened its doors to individuals seeking Early Childhood Teacher Training. Founded on the principles of promoting and sustaining quality Montessori teacher education, we offer Early Childhood Teacher Training to all individuals interested in pursuing a career in Montessori education.

What is Montessori Education?

Early in the 20th century, the Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori developed a revolutionary approach to the education of children that was years ahead of its time. The Montessori philosophy is based on a profound respect for children and their innate desire to learn. The Montessori Method is primarily an “education for life,” a way of understanding children’s needs as individuals and assisting them to develop their potential to the fullest extent possible.

The program not only trains the future educator in Montessori theory and educational application, but also comprehensively prepares the adult for understanding the child by relating to one’s own childhood experiences.

"One who would become a teacher according to our system must examine himself… He must learn how to humble himself and be clothed with charity. These are the virtues he must acquire, and this inner preparation will give him the balance and poise which he will need."

-Maria Montessori
The Secret of Childhood

Early Childhood [3 - 6] Summer Program:
The Montessori Early Childhood [3 to 6] Summer Program involves a six-week summer academic phase, intensive in both content and delivery. Courses focus upon presenting the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to become novice intern teachers by the end of the course. Students study the philosophical foundations of the Montessori Method while learning how to use the Montessori educational materials. Preparation of the specialized Montessori classroom environment and techniques for observation and evaluation are also examined. Collaborative active learning is emphasized. Students work in groups, practicing with the learning materials, analyzing and discussing Montessori and other educational philosophies and completing a variety of projects including presentation albums. During the academic session, students are taught in a fully furnished, Montessori pre-school environment. A full range of Montessori equipment is displayed on the shelves for student use. Classes meet each day from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
