In Lower Elementary, teachers measure academic achievement by closely observing students’ daily work, tracking mastery of materials and growth in executive functioning skills. Students curate portfolio work to show how their learning develops over time and take part in student–teacher conferences where they reflect on their goals and achievements.
In Upper Elementary, assessment focuses on mastery: teachers look at hands-on demonstrations, written work, and project outcomes to gauge understanding. Students build portfolios of writing, math, research, and science experiments, and regularly meet with teachers to review progress and set new personal goals. Our students take the SAT10 tests that show where they are in the curriculum and their progress.
In Lower Elementary, students start to lead and collaborate by mentoring peers, sharing responsibilities, and working in teams. They grow in independence and responsibility as they plan their work, manage time, and make thoughtful choices, using critical thinking and problem-solving to explore answers. Along the way, they strengthen communication and social skills, build solid academic understanding, develop global and cultural awareness, and show curiosity, perseverance, creativity, responsibility, empathy and strong intrinsic motivation.
In Upper Elementary, students step up as confident leaders, guiding group work, mentoring younger peers and taking part in student-led programs and presentations. They push their critical and independent thinking further as they analyze texts, solve complex problems, and manage long-term projects with real academic independence. Their communication, social, and emotional skills deepen too, as they present research, write with impact, resolve conflicts, and connect their growing global awareness to real-world issues.
As one of the best Elementary Schools in Pembroke Pines, multilingualism here is a key pathway to global citizenship, cultural empathy, and cognitive growth. We foster a vibrant, inclusive environment where students, educators, and families value and use multiple languages every day.
Students deepen their English skills in reading comprehension, grammar, writing, and creative expression, so that by the end of Elementary they can confidently write essays and reports, study literature, and take part in analytical discussions.
Additional language opportunities in Spanish and German—through classes and extracurricular clubs—allow learners to broaden their horizons and explore different world languages.
Through ISP's International Learning Opportunities for Students, MAB learners virtually connect with peers from all over the world and take part in exciting global experiences including ISP Artists, ISP Changemakers, ISP Scientists, ISP Chess Masters, and ISP Virtual Exchange.
Learning extends beyond the classroom with field trips connected to history, science, and geography.
Students in Grades 4 and 5 step into more leadership and responsibility and they prepare to thrive in Middle School. Every day, they master skills they’ll rely on in the years ahead:
Critical executive functioning skills: managing time, prioritizing tasks, planning long-term projects and organizing workload
Social and emotional learning: building self-awareness and emotional regulation, respecting different perspectives and sharing opinions thoughtfully
Internal discipline and self-direction: taking ownership of learning while holding themselves to high standards of effort and responsibility
Advanced academics: deepening understanding through inquiry, analysis and real-world application
Social responsibility: joining discussions, community-focused lessons and collaborative projects
Independent thinking: using critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving across the curriculum.
Students stay curious and motivated when they’re challenged, so in a Montessori classroom it’s common to see them working independently on tasks that would be considered higher-level grade work in a traditional setting. As students work at different paces, those who are ready move ahead quickly, while those who need more time to learn or practice a concept take that time and get the guidance and support they need to master each skill with confidence.
Our son is now a happy young man who knows that he received the tools he needed to succeed and accomplish his dream of obtaining an academic scholarship at American Heritage High School. Not only did he get accepted into the honors program at an elite high school, but the rest of his graduating class did as well.
